A little bit of whimsy for these trying times.

Today’s post is a quick little ditty to share a riff on the classic Lemon Drop recipe I posted last fall. You may remember little Otis, Sister Pie’s resident drop aficionado. A budding baker himself, he invited me over to his house before the holidays to make his favorite treat. But when I arrived, he had another version in mind — orange drops. Easy enough!

Baking buddies!

The Lemon Drop and Orange Drop recipes are not as identical as you’d think. For the latter, we use a little less zest in the filling and a LOT of zest in the icing. Additionally, orange juice mixed with sugar and cream doesn’t quite pack the same flavor punch as lemon juice does. The Orange Drop icing recipe includes a touch of lemon juice to help the citrus in the orange zest really pop.

And stay tuned, Otis’s eponymous drop is coming soon.

P.S. Sister Pie endorses tomorrow’s National Shutdown to support the de-funding of ICE. Visit the site to learn more, join in solidarity, and take action.
