Finding the rhythm, together.
Come for the content, stay for the questions!
Lately I’ve been reflecting on my need for structure. Whether it’s developing a recipe and seeking a place to begin (seasonal produce, thank you!) or deciding how to go about my day, I’m lost without a framework. This comes as part of a larger thought process spurred on by the SP board of advisors. They’re helping me to get really clear on both what I want and how I thrive. Thank you Laura, Mariko, Lily, Hunter, Matt, Cassie, and Carla!
My ideal work day is filled with variety. It’s kind of a cosmic gumbo, and the ingredients are: kitchen time, office time, and connection with people (co-workers, neighbors, customers, etc). The details of this would change all the time, but the main recipe—the structure—is there.
That’s what Your Weekly Slice of Sister Pie needs, too: variety and structure! I want to creatively approach each week’s post with intention, and I want you to feel drawn in with intrigue and curiosity. I believe this is possible with a schedule of sorts. What fun!
Like…the second Thursday of every month is a recipe and the third Thursday is … ?!
Please help me sort this out by leaving your notes in the comments, or joining the Sister Pie chat.
Some questions to get the conversation going:
How many times a month do you like seeing a new recipe?
How many times a month do you actually make one of these recipes?
What’s missing from the current offerings?
Is there something you’d like to see more of? Less of?
If you’re a free subscriber right now, what might inspire you to upgrade to paid?
That’s it for today, folks. Thanks for being here!

Here is a thought. I like baking new recipes but often question my technique and how the finished product turns out. I'm sure others have done this as well. Why not have a small monthly gathering centering on a specific recipe. Everyone in attendance should have baked the recipe in advance so that their questions or concerns could be addressed at the gatherings. It doesn't have to be at the same place or at the same time. Or the gathering could be at Sister Pie with a final product baked by you available to taste/sample. A small fee could be charged if necessary. I'm not sure if this has been done in the past but if it was please share how it went.
I think monthly recipes is an excellent way to go about this. I probably make a sister pie recipe of one kind or another about once a month, and have folded a few of the new ones in the rotation (February's lemon drops were awesome!).
For newsletter ideas, one thought might be some "tales of the pie" — stories about your career, getting started, anecdotes from your time working with customers for other workers, the different things inside the shop (the metal geese, different pets on the appliances, etc), what recipes or foods helped inspire you to pursue what you do, things like that. I enjoy that back story in your cookbook, and would love to learn a little more SP lore!
